Words and Writing

I live in Swaziland - a heart stoppingly beautiful small country near the southern tip of Africa. My wife and I have lived here for over thirty years. We share a house with two energetic dogs (named Seth and Hamlet) and a supercilious and demanding cat named Yorick. My wife is an aromatherapist and reflexologist. Our two daughters both live in Europe.

Spoken and written language fascinates me, as does music and theatre; and I have been lucky enough to indulge in these expressions of passion and emotion.

I learnt to play the violin and played in an orchestra for a time but lacked the application to progress and reverted instead to becoming a closet piano player, an instrument that you do not have re-tune every time you take it out of it's case.

I have acted and directed theatre and give physical theatre workshops, and have tried writing for the theatre with little success.

I am drawn to mountains - high mountains. I'm not sure why, but I do know that when I am among, or on mountains I feel a sense of calm and oneness that I rarely feel elsewhere.

I have climbed Kilimanjaro, Mira Peak and Imja Tse in Nepal, and Mount Elbrus in Russia. The exciting draw of the potential of mountains in the Andes and of course returning to Nepal is at times difficult to suppress. However there is an abundance of mountain and high veldt excitement in Southern Africa to assuage that thirst.
